‘Becoming Clear | Crushing Glass' is a site-specific installation that explore the relationship between the object and its fragility. It helps us become clear on what is real and what is not. The symbolism that the crushing of the glass sculptures carries manifests a feeling that every creator fears from happening, at the same time it comments on the power of technology and how it can affect us. - Igor Josifov

2-Dimensional is a performance installation that explores the delicate relationship between the artist and the viewer. The performance artist, Igor Josifov, lays underneath a plexiglass box set into the floor of the space and is visible under pedestrian traffic. As the public walks over the plexiglass box, they come into contact with the artist on a clear, 2-dimensional surface. In this moment, they express their own agency with respect to the work and simultaneously view the expression of the performance artist as he is being walked over. Igor Josifov: Continuum @ DfbrL8r 1463 W Chicago Ave, Chicago, IL 60642 Opening Saturday, April 29th, from 7PM - 10PM On view through Saturday, April 29th A performative installation that symbolizes the rhythm of Josifov’s ten-day/ten-hour performances is created over time. The public is invited to watch, interact and participate with the artist as he builds the exhibit Continuum from the morning into the evening each day. Josifov performs his unique process as he manifests a multimedia exhibit. He engages the audience as his installation expands throughout the week. Continuum is presented as an evolving installation that viewers experience with all their senses. The installation mirrors the world through fire. It evokes an inescapable awareness that the fire is within us. Fire reflections transform into many shapes. For example, a performance costume in Untie is also a work of fire reflection art on linen, which then becomes an installation. Igor Josifov has been using fire as a medium for over a decade. He celebrates his process with films, installations, and performances. The artist uses fire as a mark-making tool on paper, linen, ceramic and glass. Igor Josifov has been using fire as a medium for over a decade. Continuum celebrates this process with films, installations, and performances using fire as a mark-making tool on paper, linen, and glass. Says Josifov, “Continuum is a performative installation…it mirrors the world through fire…it is about the fire within us… it represents liberation and unity…growth and truth…” Igor Josifov was born in 1986, in Kavadarci, Macedonia. Josifov exhibits his works and performs internationally. In 2012, the National Museum of Contemporary Arts in Skopje (Macedonia) dedicated a solo exhibition to the artist: Igor Josifov – selected works (2007-2012) not long after his participation to Marina Abramović: The Artist is present at the Museum of Modern Art in New York in 2010 and his performance 2-Dimensional executed at the Art Institute of Chicago and at the Maraya Art Center in Sharjah. Josifov is famous for the way he uses the human body to share his views and messages about our contemporary world. In his role as a performance artist he draws on all types of media to create his performances. As visually striking offerings with various metaphoric meanings, his works all have a touch of theatricality. In 2007, he held his first solo exhibition Art In Search Of The ‘I’ in San Francisco. Then from 2008 to 2010, Josifov had numerous exhibitions in San Francisco, New York, and Chicago where he presented projects such as Art Interrupted (2008), Mental Prison (2009), and Being you, uses me (2009). In 2010, he participated in several group shows such as Lost Bodies (a collaboration with M. Ryan Noble) at the Mala Stanica and at the National Gallery of Arts in Macedonia, he participated in the exhibition Marina Abramović: The Artist Is Present at the MoMA in New York in 2010.
