Julie Gilhart has a keen sense for spotting and developing talent in the fashion industry. She has an innate ability to recognize potential in new, emerging designers and helps integrate them into the community. She also has the vast knowledge and experience to identify opportunities to work with more established brands who desire to reposition themselves through entry into new markets, the launch of creative collaborations, and the development of progressive business initiatives.
Julie started on this path while at Barneys New York as senior vice president and fashion director, where she oversaw creative, design, and business direction for 18 years. She was responsible for identifying and bringing into the store new, up-and-coming talent. In the process, she launched the careers of a range of forward-thinking designers. These included Alber Elbaz at Lanvin, Alexander Wang, Jil Sander, Nicolas Ghesquière at Balenciaga, Proenza Schouler, Riccardo Tisci at Givenchy, Rick Owens, The Row and many more.
Julie works with a variety of clients across industries, including 11 Honoré, Global Fashion Agenda, The Ellen MacArthur Foundation, Good Counsel, and The RealReal. She helped establish Amazon Fashion, as well as the inaugural LVMH Prize for Emerging Talent. She advised on the International Woolmark Prize and the CFDA + Lexus Fashion* Initiative, and the LVMH DARE (Disrupt Act Risk Entrepreneur) Green event dedicated to sustainable development issues.
Julie is a sought-after speaker and panelist on the topics of supply chain transparency, building sustainable businesses, and advocating shared innovation in the fashion industry. She sits on the board of Parsons The New School for Design, where she chaired the 70th Annual Parsons Benefit, Mulberry, Tomorrow London LTD, and Outerknown.
