Creative Director
Penguin Random House UK
Apr 2019 – Present
London, United Kingdom
As Creative Director of Penguin (Audiences & Audio), my role is to oversee the visual direction of Penguin's digital and video output. I am also responsible for the creative direction of Penguin's campaigns, as well as collaborating with the brand department to create a visual identity for the Penguin brand. I have created a new team called Penguin Creative, made up of a design team (including UX), a photographer and a production team for our AV output. Our AV output includes podcasts as well as videos.
Tim Lane Studio

London, United Kingdom
Tim Lane Studio is a design consultancy based in East London, focusing on three main areas of expertise: Creative Direction, Illustration and Design.
Art Director
Nov 2016 – Mar 2019
London, United Kingdom
As the first Art Director of BuzzFeed outside of the US, my role was to create and improve the design standards of the brand in the UK and beyond. As well as creating art for BuzzFeed, I also art directed photography, animation, video, illustration, graphics and branding. In addition to this, I was also responsible for other territories around the world and managed a mixed team of illustrators, animators and designers as well as an in-house photographer. I reported to the Editor-in-chief. During my time there, BuzzFeed was shortlisted for a Design Week Award and held a portrait exhibition at Boxpark Shoreditch. I also designed the set for BuzzFeed's 2017 Live Election Show, produced with Facebook. These are just some examples of how my re-design made the design industry take notice of BuzzFeed. To read more on this, please refer to the feature in It's Nice That (link below) on my re-design of BuzzFeed UK.
Deputy Art Director, Shortlist Magazine
ShortList Media Ltd
Apr 2013 – Nov 2016
London, United Kingdom
Be it art directing celebrity shoots with the likes of Samuel L Jackson one day, to commissioning an illustrator for a feature the next, my job was to routinely create, action and implement great ideas which made ShortList the best designed magazine on the male market, while only having a fraction of the time our monthly competitors had. As well as celebrity shoots, I also art directed product and style shoots on a weekly basis. I was twice nominated for the The PPA New Talent Awards: Best Art Director (2015 & 2016) as well as BSME Rising Star Awards: Print Designer Of The Year (2015 & 2016).
Art Editor, NME Specials
Aug 2011 – Apr 2013
As Art Editor I had full design control of the NME Special Series. With 5 issues a year each issue is designed from scratch to visually represent the subject. Issues have included The Stone Roses and The 501 Lost Songs.
Art Editor, Print & Digital
2009 – Apr 2013
I freelanced for magazines such as FHM, NME, Empire, Wired, Q and Mojo, as well as book publishers like The Penguin Group. As well as publishing, I also did iPad design, branding and posters. Some of my freelance work has appeared in itsnicethat.com. I have also designed a number of websites for clients. These range from creative music websites to complex small business sites. I treat each with the same design principles I do in print and have now developed my HTML and Flash skills.
Art Editor
Penguin Publishing Group
Aug 2005 – Mar 2008

Out of over 100 applicants, I was chosen for a creative role of Design Trainee. I was promoted twice within six months and my responsibilities grew to designing international flagship titles such Earth: A Visitor’s Guide.
